Such a great article it was which hard working photographers using digital backs and medium format digital cameras use this solution all the time so they are already very familiar with it. The Canon DSLRs work in a similar way with the notable difference that the shooting software comes free with the camera as opposed to Nikon and Fuji solutions. Thanks for sharing this article .

Most Canon compacts can shoot tethered. Not sure about the budget, it may be a bit low

He asked specifically about compact cameras. Most Canons can do that, Nikon don’t.

Buying a Canon do come with a free software for shooting tethered.
Nikon will nail you with $200.00 for shooting tethered.
Adobe Lightroom 3.0/3.5 is $300.00. Only the Shutter Button works on pc.

ATG AK1 Un-Tethered Systems.
Adjust all settings & modes & has wireless radio flash from pc wirelessly.
Compatible with many Canon, Olympus, Nikon, Pentax, Sony and Leica S2.

Most of the Canon compact cameras can shoot tethered.

I would recommend one from the G series ( G12 is the current one).

The shooting software is included free with the camera

More, the G series have a hotshoe so you can sync studio strobes

Hello, I have been looking for a compact to shoot tethered whit live preview in the computer, but can´t find one … perhaps the live view feature is exclusive of DSLR?

I recently sold my Nikon 18-70 and replaced it with a Sigma 18-50 f2.8. As I already have a 28-70 f2.8 from way back I’m now thinking I should have gone for the Tokina 12-24 to cover the range lol!

I would choose one which can do manual exposure and WB.
